Adult Hypertension Report - 1045 Words

The report describes the visits to the primary care physicians made by adult hypertensive adults during 2013-2014, with their demographic, state and regional differences in hypertension control and pharmaceutical treatment. Hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke in the United States. Hypertension as defined as an elevation of systolic greater or equal 140mmHg and diastolic greater or equal 90 mmHG. 2011- 2014 from the recent study, estimated that 53% of hypertensive adults had their hypertension controlled. The data obtained by National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) can be utilized to make national, regional and some state based estimates of office –based physician health care utilization. The Ambulatory and Health Care department at the National Center for Health Statistics offers data on patient visits to ambulatory care settings such as physician offices (data up to 2015), emergency departments (data up to 2014), outpatient departments (data up to 2011), and ambulatory surgery centers (most recent year is 2010). This report is linked and used the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey 2013-2014 data sets, which can be downloaded for free from the website at the following link: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/ahcd/index.htm. CDC provided code to import the flat data file (unformatted) into SAS, Stata, and SPSS statistical packages for analysis. This can also find on CDC website the user manual (documentation) and codebook (contained in the user manual) for each survey type and year. CDC highly recommends referring into the user manual when analyzing the data. In addition, CDC provided detailed web tables, which can give an idea of the types of data collected.
